Day 4

7/4/14

Warrumbungle national park to Dubbo

Hi guys, my name is Tim
Today nothing went wrong with the caravan (luckily) but before we hit the road again we went up to Siding Springs Observatory which was really, really cool and also really, really cold when you got up to the entrance of the biggest telescope, because it was unprotected. When we got back in the car it said that it was 16 degrees celsius. In the visitors center it had a model of the solar system that had all the planets including Pluto. The planets went around the model sun at the actual speed ratios but sped up heaps so that mercury span round the sun about five times while Pluto hardly moved at all. There has been a huge brushfire through that area and it was stopped about 10 meters away from the observatory.

When we got the caravan hitched up (did you really expect us to haul it all the way up that mountain?) we started heading towards Dubbo, which we eventually got to. We went to the Old Dubbo Gaol (or jail) for a self guided tour (which I thoroughly enjoyed) after the tour we went to 'Dubbo City' which is a caravan park and I had a burger with bacon, pineapple, egg, onion, meat pattie from a corner store which was nice then we played some card games and went to bed.

  1. Very cool about the model of the planets - would love to see that.

    1. We had to press the button that made it move about 5 times to even get Pluto to even move a centimeter.
